An Introduction To Amazon / Amazon.com

Amazon.comWe assume that you’ve probably already heard of Amazon / Amazon.com (or one of its growing number of other country-specific sites), but you may not appreciate the vast range of products and services that they now offer.

We have built this site to try to help you get the most from Amazon and to uncover some of its many treasures, but first, a few facts and figures (courtesy of Wikipedia.org).

Amazon.com is reputed to be the world’s largest online retailer, and it’s easy to see why – from humble beginnings in the mid-1990s as an online bookstore (which took over five years to even turn a profit after surviving the dot com crash that shut down so many online websites), created by Jeff Bezos, the Amazon store now sells thousands of products in many different categories.

In fact, we do all of our shopping online (and we do mean all), and there’s not much that we can’t find on Amazon – from food for us and our dogs to electrical appliances, from entertainment in the form of books (both physical and Kindle), movies and music to furniture, from clothing to DIY tools, from computer equipment and software to health and nutrition products, and so much more.

Their growth has been founded on great prices, an ever-increasing range of products and services, superb marketing, and first class customer service, not to mention continued expansion into other countries (eight at the time of writing, with more countries in the pipeline).

Although Amazon headquarters are in the state of Washington (the full address is Amazon.com, Inc., 1200 12th Ave. South, Ste. 1200, Seattle, WA 98144-2734), they have distribution centers all over the United States, as well as in the other countries in which they operate.

They’ve also acquired a number of other companies (e.g. Audible.com, Zappos) over the years, all of which have helped them to become one of the most well-known and visited websites on the planet.
